so I thought this was pretty cool, Dublin unveiled a statue of the lead singer of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott. I can't find a picture of it, but I'll put one on here when I can. I think "the Boys are Back in Town" is an awesome song, and apparently they're really famous in Dublin. He died in 1986 though, according to this Yahoo story, which I was not aware of. But still, it's pretty neat.

Dublin's pretty crazy about statues--the city is newly affluent and determined to spend money on non-necessary things, for the first time in its existence. They've probably put up near a hundred statues in the past 15 years, and because they're all new, there's no artistic consistency. Lots of their statues become famous (at least within the context of Dublin), and acquire rhyming nicknames (like 'the tart with the cart' for the statue of Molly Malone, or 'the spire in the mire' and 'the stiletto in the ghetto' for the Millennium spike.) It'll probably be worth checking out what this one gets named...
IS he going to have a heroin needle sticking out of his arm, too?
Cowboy Song rules.
Nope. Guess not.

His mom's still pretty hot for an old broad.
the statue was paid for by fans, not the Dublin council. I was at the unveiling and there were people of all ages and many nationalities.
I just think it's awesome that a woman named Philomena named her son Phil. He was destined for greatness!
