so the Westminster Kennel Club show was the other day, meaning that there are tons of stupid dog names in the news. I honestly don't know what is up with people and these retarded names. The one that won is called Rufus, which is a perfectly fine name for a dog. However, that's not really the dog's name, it's "Ch Rocky Top's Sundance Kid." What the hell is that? Can you imagine calling your dog with that stupid ass name? "Ch Rocky Top's Sundance Kid!! Ch Rocky Top's Sundance Kiiiiid!! come get some snackies!!" I mean, just name the dog Rufus, what the hell.

Here are some more terrible names:
Ch Caitland Isle Take A Chance NA NAJ
Ch Pop Star SS Of Northern Farm
Ch Nanuke's Snoklassic No Boundries (sic, nice spelling dipshit)
Ch Happylegs Lilbuddy At Bronco (honestly, any one of those words would be a fine dog name. If you can't decide, just name it Fido)
Ch Eclipse Envy O Sportingfield
Ch Sangeo Farscape CD RN AX AXJ (RN? is this dog a nurse?)
Ch Chuckanut Party Favour O Novel
Ch Kemosabe Broxden High Button Shoes
Ch Fwaggles Tap Man At Burmack (?????)

well obviously caitland isle take a chance is a pretty good name considering the dog just won BEST IN SHOW at Crufts - the worlds biggest dog show with over 22000 dogs entered!

who gives a shit, it's still a stupid name. what do you say when you're calling it? "Ch Caitland Isle Take A Chance NA NAJ! Ch Caitland Isle Take A Chance NA NAJ! Time for a walky-walk! Come here Ch Caitland Isle Take A Chance NA NAJ!"

This particular dog's "call name" is just plain "Chance." The whole name you think is so stupid is how it's registered on its AKC (or whatever) papers; the registered name usually reflects its pedigree, breeders, etc. All dogs with long registered names also have a short "call name," the name they respond to.

I figured that, but I still think it's silly. Why not make the very first of that long string of names the actual dog's name, then? "Chance Blah Blah Blah Etc NA NAJ AX AXJ RN PHD NAACP." Plus a lot of the words are just bizzare. Fwaggles? Snoklassic? Chuckanut? These are weird names for a dog or anything for that matter.

Plus, the letters that follow are titles that show hours and hours of hard work and training. NA and NAJ are agility titles, RN and RA are rally titles, CD, UD, and OTCH are obedience titles. Don't talk shit unless you really know what you are talking about.

I appreciate the education, but I'll talk shit about whatever I want to talk shit about. I'm sure it's very hard work to raise and train a dog, so you probably shouldn't give them incredibly stupid names.

It depends on the breeder if you need to use their kennel name as a prefix in the dog's registered name. It'd get confusing trying to keep track of 12 dogs entered all named Buster - so the registered name helps distinguish and indentify the dogs, their breeder(s), and their pedigree. People generally try to pick unique kennel names to avoid confusion with others in the dog world in general and their breed in particular. Yes, some names are goofy and spelling counts even with a 28 letter limit from the AKC.

fair enough. i still think there are plenty of unique one word names to go around. or just add your own last name. Stinky Wiseman would be a good dog name, I think. Not Caitland Isle Take A Chance Wiseman

A belated "I agree" (just found this blog while I was looking for info on Pop Star SS of Northern Farm because he happens to be a dog I want to breed mine to) I bred dogs for 15 years and always thought the process was ridiculous. True you need something unique if you plan to show and campaign the dog but most of the names are not unique. Just stupid. By the way...rarely is a dog's registered name the name a person uses. In the dog world the real everyday name is referred to as the "call name". martha

thanks martha. i just don't see why the call name can't be the show name, or at least part of it (like, half of it.

Your an idiot...
Obviously you have no idea about pedigrees and registration. Pure bred dogs have both call names and registered names.
Dufas !

Haha, thanks for the comment, spelling expert!

Ch Eclipse Envy O Sportingfield is named Zoey. "Eclipse" is the name of her co-breeder's kennel and "Sportingfield" is the name of the co-owner's kennel. Both of these kennel names give an insight into her breeding lines. Today Zoey is retired and enjoys a quiet life in Florda and Montana.

Why isn't Zoey in the long name?

Good question! Why not register as "Zoey Eclipse Envy o Sporting Field"?!?!?!?! That is what you have been saying all along and I can't say I disagree. Maybe the AKC charges by the letter, I have no idea. She's sitting next to me right now and I suppose I could ask her but she is a woman of few words and would probably ignore me anyway.

Did you know Zoey is the winningest female whippet in modern history and second in the entire breed to just one other dog, also from Sporting Field's?

Chances registered name is not stupid! He is named after his sire and his sires kennel name..
